Successful gathering of alumni of the Program of Economics! A special reunion in the house that is #HeritageForAll
On Friday, June 6, the Faculty of Accounting, Economic and Administrative Sciences became the setting for an emotional reunion of alumni from the Economics Program at the University of Cauca. This event not only celebrated shared memories and stories but also served as a vital space to strengthen the bonds among those who proudly carry the Unicaucano identity. Moreover, the voices and experiences of the attendees became key elements in the ongoing curriculum reform process, aimed at enriching the future of the program.
The Economics Program at the University of Cauca, known for its excellence and high-quality accreditation, is engaged in a continuous improvement process that incorporates diverse perspectives to guide the education of its students in response to the challenges of today’s social environment. In this context, the main goal of the gathering was to connect our alumni with the transformational process currently underway within the program. The upcoming approval of a curriculum reform is expected to bring significant benefits for students, research activities, and social engagement.

One of the most meaningful moments of the event was the lecture “Population Projections as a Tool for Public and Private Decision-Making,” delivered by economist Luis Felipe Jiménez Chávez, a program alumnus, master’s graduate in Population Studies from FLACSO, and current official at Mexico’s National Population Council (CONAPO). His presentation offered a space for reflection on the strategic value of demographic statistics and their role in critical decisions related to resource allocation, territorial planning, and pressing issues such as the demographic dividend and accelerated population aging.
With nearly 90 participants, the gathering also provided the opportunity to share the Executive Summary of the Curriculum Reform, which is currently under review by the University’s Superior Council. In addition, it created a valuable space for intergenerational integration between future economists and alumni with over 15 years of professional experience. The evening concluded on a joyful and festive note with live music: performances by the SINTRAUNICOL folklore group and the rock band Signos Band brought a lively atmosphere to the reunion, making it a memorable occasion and laying the groundwork for the creation of a Professional Network of Economists of Cauca.

Program Coordinator Mónica Sinisterra shared the following: “For us, reconnecting with our alumni is an opportunity to showcase the continuing education processes we have in place. It also allows us to demonstrate the progress we’ve made as a program, how we’ve addressed past areas for improvement, and how we’ve evolved to become one of the leading economics programs in our country and we hope, in the world.”
In this way, the Economics Program welcomed its alumni to a very special event, a moment to reflect on the achievements that have been cultivated over the past 25 years through dedication and hard work.

The alumni in attendance expressed great joy at returning to their academic home and emphasized the importance of organizing more events of this nature.
From this house that is #HeritageForAll, we celebrate such spaces, and we proudly reaffirm that our University will always keep its doors open to all Unicaucano alumni who once walked these halls and who now continue to pursue their dreams, fulfill their goals, and contribute to the development of the country.
