Over One Hundred Unicaucano Students to Provide Services at Legal Clinics in Popayán and Santander de Quilichao
Final-year law students took their oath at the Francisco José de Caldas Auditorium to offer free, high-quality legal advice to the community.
In a highly significant and special event for our future lawyers, a total of 114 students from the University of Cauca’s Law program took their oath, fully prepared to serve the community through the legal clinics located in Popayán and Santander de Quilichao.
Regarding this, student Karen Valentina Bolaños Muñoz expressed: “Law is deeply tied to its social function, and this oath allows us to understand that we are working for and with society. A lawyer who does not serve to improve society would be of little use. That is why it is essential for us to be ethical and well-rounded professionals who understand that our career is not just about pursuing personal interests but about being available to those who seek our help. Discipline, effort, but above all, values and ethics, must always guide our actions. We must strive to give our best and ensure that our actions have a positive impact.”

During the ceremony, Gustavo Adolfo Molano Sánchez, Director of the Legal Clinic in Santander de Quilichao, highlighted “the moral and ethical commitment that these young people acquire as they put into practice the values instilled in them by their parents. This will help foster healthier future generations, free from corruption, with professionals who contribute meaningfully to their communities. Beyond knowledge itself, it is about commitment and the desire to resolve the various issues that arise.”
Similarly, Magda Beatriz Erazo Bonilla, Director of the Legal Clinic in Popayán, emphasized that “this oath-taking ceremony aims to help law students grasp the importance of starting their professional practice with real cases, representing people who, in many cases, lack the financial means to hire a trusted lawyer or belong to vulnerable groups requiring constitutional protection. This ceremony grants solemnity and significance to the new stage that Unicaucano students are beginning.”

With great emotion, Karen Valentina added: “We have spent eight semesters preparing, always striving to do our best—not just for a grade or to fulfill a requirement—but because we have had the best professors and a great university that has taught us that the Legal Clinic is truly about testing ourselves, answering the questions: What are we made of? And why did we choose this career? This is our opportunity to serve the community and show people that the University of Cauca’s Legal Clinics offer exceptional quality, with excellent professors and committed students willing to do their best for the people—who, in the end, have also given us the opportunity to pursue this career.”
