Geography
The Geography Program of Regional and Environmental Development belongs to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Cauca and was created by Resolution No 037 of September 17, 1996, issued by the Supreme Council.
This Academic Program focuses on the study of regions, recognizing not only economic actions that, but also social processes (settlement and spatial interaction) that happen and have specific cultural and historical characteristics and implications in the environment.
This systematic knowledge of the regions let analyze and identify their particularities, their organizational skills and their levels of regional integration, to undertake common benefit work under the regional development and land use planning.
Furthermore, given that the prospects of the Colombian State on development involve challenges to the regions related to the management of natural, financial, and human resources, this Academic Program aims for social responsibility in the training of professionals ready to take on these challenges.
In such context, corresponds to the Social Sciences, and in particular, the Department of Geography at the University of Cauca, advance the study of topics and fields of knowledge mentioned above to form suitable professionals in regional analysis and environmental management prescribed in the Colombian Constitution.
